Topi on a mound
Oil on linen, 60cm x 60cm.
This beautiful Topi has been created with only the finest quality oil paints on linen
Topi are frequently seen on a turmite mound. They are keeping a look out. They have exceptional eyesight and it is their best defence against predators. They, and the much smaller Thomson gazelles are the early warning signals for the wildebeest and the zebra. Poor old wildebeest and zebra are not blessed with the same eyesight, and for this reason they are easy prey. So they tend to hang around with the Topi hoping that they might see a cheetah hiding in the grass, or a lion creeping in the bushes, and will start the stampede away from the big cats. The Topi are easily spotted as along with their beautiful warm Sienna colouring they have darker blue grey patches, nicked named by guides as “topi with their blue jeans on”
This painting comes unframed, with D rings and hanging cord attached, ready to hang.
