Commissioning a beautiful work of art for your home, exactly to your specifications can be such a joy.
Don't worry if you've never commissioned a painting before. The process is really easy and enjoyable.
You can learn all about the process, how much it will cost and what to expect.

I usually have a 3 -4 month waiting list so do book early if you have a specific date or special occasion.
Guide price
60x60 £950

80x80 £1450

100x100 £2200

Prices are a guide for an oil painting on canvas, ready to hang, unframed, including postage and packing to UK mainland.
I only paint one animal per canvas. This is because my style needs space for the animal to "breathe" and makes the animal the star of the show!

What kind of commission would you like?

Painting of a deer with large antlers, detailed face, and brown and green tones on a linen background.

The most popular commissions I do is work based on my own work, but with a tweak.
Sometimes people have seen a print of mine and they want an original based on that print. I love doing this kind of work, as it means I'm working in my style, but in a size and palette just for you.

Print of Majesty the stag, with large antlers on a linen background, framed in white.

Here's an example based on a print. On the left is one of my best sellers, Majesty. The client wanted a 100cm square painting, without gold leaf on the antlers. They also selected their own palette to include some smokey greens to tone in with their decor. The final painting is beautiful.

What about pet portraits?

Yes! I’m delighted to let you know I do pet portraits. But I'm super fussy about the reference photo.

The reason being, you're spending a lot of money and I'm going to make sure your painting is worth every penny.

My commissions aren’t just pretty paintings of a dog, they re paintings of your beloved family member, by your side each day and I want you to be thrilled to bits with it when it's finished.

In order to make that happen I need a great reference photo.

1. Get down so that you are eye to eye with your dog, if you take a picture with the dog looking up at you the painting won’t look right unless you hang it off the skirting board! Think about the impact of my cockapoo Bumbles here, he's fully eye to eye to us, that’s why it’s so powerful.

2. Next try to have a clear (ish)  background, gosh this is sounding like a passport photo, but if there are too many patterns or blankets in the background it's hard to see the dog.

 3.  make sure his eyes are clear, Bumbles is crazy curly cockapoo and it’s so hard to get a photo with his pretty eyes, but it’s really worth it as the eyes are so important to connect the viewer with the painting.

4. Make sure it's a good resolution. If I'm creating a painting that's say 80x80cm I'm going to zoom in on that photo on my iPad when I'm painting to get all the details, so I need a good quality photo.

Just send me one photo, in order to get a nice likeness of your pet I need to follow one picture, if I use more than one reference it can take away from what we want to capture.

Whilst this is lovely image in the sunshine sitting in the bluebells, it won’t make a good reference photo.

I can’t see his eyes properly, which is really important, and even though it’s a clear photo, the dog isn’t very clear. He’s at an odd angle and I’m not down at his level.

This image is great to work from. He’s absolutely eye to eye with me and I can see his lovely eyes as his fur is brushed away from them. He’s sitting on a sofa which also helps with getting face to face with your dog.

Then what happens? When do I pay?

When everyone is happy I draw up a commission agreement.

Occasionally prices are slightly different depending on your request (don't worry about this, it's rare for it to be more,  and I'll tell you before you pay anything!) The commission agreement will state the price and timescale.
Once you pay the deposit, the price will not change; there are no hidden extras.

Guide prices are:

60x60 £950
80x80 £1450
100x100 £2200

The commission agreement is just one side of A4.
It outlines the size, subject matter and style of the work, the colours you want and it names other work you've seen that you like. It states the price and and deadline and any other postage and packing details.
It's easy peasy, no waffle and very clear, so there's absolutely nothing to worry about.
Work begins when you pay the deposit.
