Mohawk of the Mara

£1,450.00

Original painting  Medium: Oil on Linen
Size: canvas size 75 x 90cm Framed size 85× 100cm

Price INCLUDING frame, postage and packing to GB address is £1450

This beautiful oil painting is painted on natural linen canvas, and the linen is visible in the background. This gives the vibrant colours in the lion space to breathe. This is such a statement piece. They are incredible warm colours made from ochre, Naples yellow, Chinese orange, an Italian rose brown, these sit next to cool blues, icy pale turquoise and greys.

The colours are inspired by the surrounding landscape, now incorporated into the lion.

As with all my lions, Mohawk of the Mara is based on my real encounters on the Masai Mara. I stay at Offbeat mara camp, and the camp is fortunate to have the large offbeat pride close by, so lions become part of  daily life when there. They are truly wonderful animals and I remain mesmerised by them. Mohawk was the first lion I ever saw on the mara, I first saw him on the north conservancy, he is now on the main reserve and is known for his powerful presence and luxuriant mane.

He is extremely powerful.

This painting depicts Mohawk walking towards our jeep early one morning. He came so close I could have reached out and touched him. I didn’t of course, my heart was beating out of my chest as he approached us. He was beautiful and powerful in equal measure. I shall never forget it.

Framed in a plain white frame, with hanging cord attached  ready to hang.
