Fred is one of the largest males on the Mara North Conservancy (and was friends with the late great Hugo). The colour palette I have used for Fred is based on the colours of the morning light on the Mara.
We sometimes associate Africa with having hot red and orange colours but an early morning drive on the Mara gives a surprisingly muted and cool pallet which match his cool, calm nature. He is extremely powerful.
This beautiful oil painting is painted on natural linen canvas, and the linen is visible in the background. This gives the beautiful colours in the elephant space to breathe. This is such a statement piece.
They are incredible warm colours made from ochre, Naples yellow, French coral, and Italian rose brown, these sit next to cool blues, icy pale turquoise and gentle greys.The colours are inspired by the surrounding landscape, now incorporated into the elephant .
