You may have seen some of my colourful wildlife paintings before, but sharks offer something entirely different. Powerful, streamlined, and endlessly fascinating, they are often misunderstood creatures. Bruce is named after the nickname given to the mechanical shark on the set of Jaws — a small nod to the cultural mythology surrounding sharks, and a reminder of how deeply they’ve captured our imagination.
Rather than focusing on fear, this painting celebrates the shark’s strength, movement, and beauty. My use of super-vibrant colour is intentional: I want the painting to stop you in your tracks. To have presence. To feel alive. Against the calm grey background, the colours almost glow, giving the piece an energy that shifts with the light — at times reminiscent of stained glass.
I adore using colour in unexpected ways, and Bruce gave me the perfect opportunity to push that even further. The layers of oil paint build depth and texture, inviting you to linger and discover new details the longer you look.
