One of my favourite things about going up to London for a day in the National Gallery sketching is a walk up Whitehall, when you go past horse guards Parade in the middle of the day there are always lots of tourists taking photographs of the lifeguard on century duty with their horses. But this painting is based on an early morning encounter with beautiful subtle light. The uniform in this instance shows us that this is a member of the blues and Royals with his distinctive red plume on his helmet. The light glinting and catching odd details. The painting has a lightness of touch and swiftness to it letting the viewer fill in the gaps themselves. A beautifully atmospheric piece which could be quite the talking point for anyone who loves horses, served in the Blues and Royals, or simply loves the sites and sounds of London.
Unframed. This painting comes the D rings and hanging cord attached and is ready to hang straight away. However if you were to get it framed at a later date, it would not be very expensive as oil paintings are not framed under glass, so you only pay for the frame not the glazing.
