This small oil painting is so special. If you have ever visited Venice, you will know that crowds often gather on the Academia bridge to watch the sun go down behind Santa Maria Salute. It’s a wonderful but busy sight. However if viewed from the waterfront nearer St Marks you get another perspective. At dusk the golden hour in Venice is magical. I found a little spot and sketched the scene as best a could standing up and trying to ignore curious onlookers! When I returned home, couldn't wait to paint it in oils.
This painting though rather small is still able to capture some of the immediacy of those watercolour sketches I made on the spot but carries the weight and intensity of oil paints. This beautiful little painting could grace any little nook or corner of your home and bring back incredible memories of such a beautiful city.
